Life's Soundtrack...

12.20.2009

"Music is a total constant. That's why we have such a strong visceral connection to it, you know? Because a song can take you back instantly to a moment, or a place, or even a person. No matter what else has changed in your or the world, that one song stays the same, just like that moment."
— Sarah Dessen (writer)

RIP Beautiful Girl...

This morning Brittany Murphy passed away due to cardiac arrest. She was a beautiful and fully entertaining girl. This is seriously so sad and I feel for her friends and family. She was only 32 years old. RIP pretty girl.

"Live in the present, launch yourself on every wave,

find eternity in each moment."
— Henry David Thoreau

A new day...

“I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning...” - Joseph Priestley

Lazy Saturday.

This was literally me all day.
Off and on a bit.
But mostly, yes.
This was me.
All day.

Hey, its FRIDAY!

12.18.2009

Yay, its finally friday.

Today is my last day of work for 2 weeks! I am so excited. I will be stopping in to see the little ones durning the break though, but not working! This means I am actually going to have time to finish my home made chirstimas gifts. I will be going home for a good chunk of time! And my schedule is open to do what ever I want for New Years!

I am most excited to spend some quality time with my few girlfriends while I am home. I am in major need of some good one on one time with each of them. Its crazy that my three best friends are all in different groups and places in life.

Tonight the boyfriend and I plan on going out and meeting up with some good friends from home. A girl we grew up with is getting married tonight and although we are not going to go to the wedding, we thought it might be fun to meet up with some friends out afterwards. It should be fun.

What are your plans this weekend?

Finish each day...

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this.
It is so true.

Lookin on the bright side...

12.16.2009

Yes. Today was not the greatest of days.
Until, I decided to turn it into one by looking at the bright side.
Here are some "bright side" moments from my day today.

I finished one of my handmade gifts and its lovely.
Little O (the baby I work with) entertained me all day.
I sent my fathers birthday card out this morning.
I was blessed with a lot of down time at work today.
I recieved a postcard from a good friend in Germany.
I have three new netflix ready and waiting to be watched.
I decided how I am wrapping my holiday gifts.
My apartment was warm when I got home.
I am cooking a yummy dinner.
The boyfriend is on his way over.

I truly believe that you can control the way you react to things.
The second i decided to look on the bright side,
things actually strarted feeling brighter.

What was waiting for you on your brightside?

Turn Around...

Today started off fine enough. But it, along with my mood has taken a turn. Im now feeling a little down, with no real reason. Outside it is dark and gloomy and the rain is intense. A mirror perhaps. My mind wont settle.

But, at the same time, I have high hopes for another turn around. I am excited to get home, get cozy, and dive into more crafts and art. All of this crafting has really been helping me out lately. Creativity is a high. And its left me alone with my thoughts, and Ive really enjoyed it.

So, for now, I will allow myself to wallow. Really feel the depth of the darkness right now. Because I know it will be my bottom. The day will only get better. Brighter. I know it. Let it in. Embrace it. Feel it. Then let it go.

How are you today?

This makes my heart light...

12.15.2009

"And I learned what is obvious to a child. That life is simply a collection of little lives, each lived one day at a time. That each day should be spent finding beauty in flowers and poetry and talking to animals. That a day spent with dreaming and sunsets and refreshing breezes cannot be bettered. But most of all, I learned that life is about sitting on benches next to ancient creeks with my hand on her knee and sometimes, on good days, for falling in love."
Nicholas Sparks (from The Notebook)

The Evolution of the Hipster.

12.05.2009

I found this piece and fell in love with it! It was a feature in the November issue of Paste and it was written by Kate Kiefer and beautifully photographed by Josh Meister. It is the evolution of the hipster from 2000 to now. And it is hilarious! Enjoy!

2000: The Emo
The proto-hipster’s white belt and guyliner make for a soulful combination.
2000: The Emo

2001: The Emo Redux
The skulls on her tour-only Death Cab tee don’t match the skulls on her Vans, so it’s not like she’s trying too hard.
2001: The Emo Redux

2002: The Ashton
His PBR trucker hat and faux vintage t-shirt reveal an obsession with “irony.”
2002: The Ashton

2003: The Scenester
A gaudy tattoo appears on her chest, and she is never spotted without her iPod.
2003: The Scenester

2004: The Twee
He adores his rare-vinyl collection and tobacco pipe. Despite 20/20 vision, he wears Buddy Holly glasses.
2004: The Twee

2005: The Fauxhemian
She suffers for fashion, wearing a furry hat, boots and keffiyah even during the warmest months. Her new wrist tattoo is the Japanese symbol for beauty—or at least that’s what the guy at the tat shop told her.
2005: The Fauxhemian

2006: The Mountain Man
He seeks working-class authenticity, taking pride in his full beard and the fact that he’s often mistaken for a homeless person.
2006: The Mountain Man

2007: The Vintage Queen
She shops at retro boutiques and posts Holga photos on her blog. She has said that the koi fish cover-up tattoo on her arm symbolizes “nature and love and peace and stuff.”
2007: The Vintage Queen

2008: The Williamsburg
He thoughtfully hangs shutter shades in the deep-V of his white tee, and he’s often seen walking his fixed-gear bike around town while texting with his iPhone.
2008: The Williamsburg

2009: The Meta-Nerd
By wearing the popular Three Wolf Moon T-shirt, today’s hipster makes a mockery of herself. She has finally completed the full-sleeve tattoo.
2009: The Meta-Nerd

Great right? So "The Williamsburg" is the typical hipster you can see roaming the streets here in Portland. The fixy bike is the stand out! The boyfriend fits into this category. At times he rocks deep Vs and cut of jeans. Oh, and he has the hat from the photo. Too funny!

As for me, I would be "The Fauxhemian". Hehe. I totally rock boots and scarves all summer!

What do you think? Do you fit into one of these?
Which one?

Life's Soundtrack...

Live...

12.03.2009

One of the most tragic things i know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. we are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon- instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today. -Dale Carnegie

Sadness...

12.02.2009

She was a genius of sadness, immersing herself in it, separating its numerous strands, appreciating its subtle nuances, she was a prism through which sadness could be divided into its infinite spectrum.
-Jonathan Safran

When I get sad, I embrace it.
I let it in and feel it.
Then, I let it go.

I am thankful for...

-my family
-my best friend/boyfriend
-all of my beautiful friends
-my doggie
-my job/bosses
-the city I live in
-snowboarding
-rootbeer
-teddy
-my followers
-my warm bed
-my individuality
-coffee
-happiness
-The Office
-my blog. it always listens.

These are just a few, there are many many more.
What are you thankful for?

par·a·chute

1.
a folding, umbrellalike, fabric device for allowing a person, to float down safely through the air from a great height.

“But it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once and it’s too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst. And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.” — American Beauty
