Rest In Love Jyme

7.28.2009

Yesterday evening our beloved cat Jyme had a tragic accident. Although she hung on like a champ, her injuries were too severe and she didn't make it. I am grateful that I got to be there petting and loving on her as she took her last breaths and, as Kaite so eloquently put it, graduated from life.

My roommate Kaite had warned me over and over leading up to our moving in together just how fast and hard I would fall for this lovely feline, and surely enough I did. I called her jimmy (more often than not it came out with a bit of a Spanish accent "himmy") and scratched her butt while she ate (her favorite). She was beautiful and she knew it But just in case you didn't know, she would pose on bookshelves and stare at you until you noticed. I will miss many things about Jyme, here are just a few...I will miss: Her drinking out of the toilet while I get ready for the night, such a lady. Her meowing every time her food dish was less than half full, I think she was always worried in case we would ever just mysteriously left her. Chasing and attacking moths in the living room and then taking them down in one gulp. Her greeting me at the hallway when I walk through the door. Her hiding under my bed when we have over 3 house guests (which is almost everyday). The amazing contortionist like positions she worked herself into during naps. Holding her like a baby and talking to her like an adult. And most of all, the way she would casually walk up and rub her soft fur against your ankles forcing you to pick her up and forget all that is sad and annoying if only for a moment.

We love and miss you Jyme. We all know you are the sweetest and most beautiful kitten in kitty heaven. I leave you now with the same request in kitty heaven as I had every time I walked out the door of our little apartment in the city...Hold Down The Fort Jimmy. Hold it Down.

  1. I am so, so sorry to hear about your loss. I have two kitties myself and I am amazed everyday at how these little furballs have taken over my heart completely. It sounds like Jyme was a wonderful companion and enjoyed all of the wonderful days she had with you.

  3. That's so sad. I lost my kitty a few months ago also. Losing a pet is so hard because they are the ones who always love you no matter what.

“But it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once and it’s too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst. And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.” — American Beauty
