Puking in my Party Dress...

1.04.2011

or 2011, A Bad First Impression
or How I spent my New Years Day

New years eve.
I had a very very fun night. Simple with really good friends. My favorite bar and good hiphop to dance to. We ended the night with a bunch of friends at one of their houses. While Rachelle passed out a little early, I thought it would be a good idea to chug some more champagne, for good measure? And eat jalepeno poppers ( I dont like jalepeno poppers) and also yell passionately about science and bacon. Luckily I was with very good friends who didnt judge me for my stupid behavior. Im pretty sure they take me as I am, if not, they are very good at faking it. Anyways, it was a great night and we were put up in a guest bedroom and given the five star treatment including a pitcher of ice water next to the bed. Just what I needed as I shut my eyes and tried not to give in to the spins.

Cut to the next morning. Ugh. I open my eyes, but they stutter a bit as the latches pull apart from each other. I have a bit of where-the-fuck-am-I moment and then it all floods back to me.

Heres the thing. I am what some one might call a hangover case. I get hungover very very easily and its not just a headache or a quick trip to the bathroom in the morning. If im hungover, its ALL DAY. In and out of the bathroom for hours, in pain and not able to stop. Its pretty awful. But, its so weird, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesnt. I have been down the whole day after just a couple beers, then fine another day after a handfull of vodka redbulls. Its very hit and miss and I hate it. The only pattern I have noticed is that when I am drinking more often, I get hung over less. Not a great realization for some one that is finally coming out of that whole "go out and party every night" stage. Since I stopped drinking as much I tend to get pretty crappy feeling every time. So around the end of october I decided to stop drinking. Even those couple of glasses of wine before bed or a beer at dinner. It wasnt worth it to me any more. I wanted to just take a break so I said Id stop til Thanksgiving (we also have a tradition of going out the night before Thanksgiving). I had no problem with not drinking. I ended up having some drinks and lots of fun when I was home for Thanksgiving and then threw up out of my best friends car as she dropped me off for dinner. Not fun. So I stopped again. Didnt drink at any of the Christmas festivities either. Which is pretty tough if you know what I mean.

Back to the morning. I feel ok. Paul, the friend that put us up and brought us water comes in with a plate of bacon. Apparently I was not fucking around with the bacon comments the night before. And thats when it hit me. I go to the bathroom and it starts. Once it starts I know im in for an all day event. Joy. I get back in bed turn toward Rachelle and she is eating bacon in my face "hi honey." Im not so mad that she is eating bacon in my fucking face when I just barfed in the bathroom, im more mad that she is eating MY bacon. I was the one yelling my head off for bacon last night, making a fool of myself, and risking friend loss. And where was she? Asleep on the couch. She's getting quite the free ride I think as I make my second trip to the toilet.

As you can tell I had decided to drink for New Years. COME ON. What else are you gonna do. I tried hydrating all day in order to avoid throwing my first hours of 2011 away. Didnt work. Obviously. But I knew that since I hadnt been drinking this was a risk I was going to have to take, and I thought the trade off would be worth it. Its just one day.

The rest of my time at Paul was spent cracking jokes and getting filled in on my absurd antics between bathroom breaks. Again, luckily I was in good company. I love my friends. We got a ride back to Rachelles house and thats when things took a turn for me, I got much sicker and felt very dizzy and could barely get out of my best friends bed. This is the worst part. I gets bad before it gets better. Then once I am finally able to fall asleep I know it will be over soon. I woke up from my nap and was so weak I could barely make it out to the couches to be with my friend. I would need a couple more hours to regain strength to make it home, so we watched beauty and the beast and some shows together. She fed me mac and cheese and after a few bites I was done. Finally at 11pm, I went home.

This is what happens to me when I drink. Well, yes, only sometimes, but with out knowing which times it will or will not happen, it has just become too much for me. It is just not worth it to me any more. So there is my long winded way of saying im done drinking. For now. I know myself and I do like to drink up and get down just a little too much to officially swear it off, but for now, im done.
So....

Vodka,
Im sorry. We are not going to be seeing each other for a while. Im  done. On a break. Taking some time. I just cant do this any longer. No. No. This isn a line, its really not you, its me. Please take care. Maybe at another place in my life we will work better together, maybe our timing will be right in the future. But for now, youre on your own. Ill miss you, youll miss me, but something tells me youll be picked up right away. Youre a hard one to turn down.
Love always, Lace

My Christmas Highlights

I had a very very good Christmas. I love Christmas time so much. There is just something about this time of year. I simply adore it. Here are some of my favorite parts of my trip home, in order of appearance.

Girls Night In: This year I decided to make all of the gifts for my girlfriends. I made everyone pillows with personal sayings, quotes, or meaningful words, a little piece of framed friendship art and headbands. Giving gifts is my favorite part of Christmas. So I wanted to get all the girls together to at least see each others faces for the holiday, so we put together a somewhat last minute girls night. I am really loving these girls nights! First of all, I have never had a lot of girlfriends. I have always had my Rachelley, since we were 11, and then there were the other few, still very wonderful best friends, but turned out to not be lifers. I have however, always had boys, heaps of guy friends to keep track of. BUT, for the past six months I have grown a pretty radical small but tight group of girls. We are all very different but it works. We are real and true and thats the most important thing. We have started this little tradition of getting the girls together, most often whenever i can come to town since I am the only one up here in Portland. It is simply wonderful. This night was my favorite one so far. Not because everyone loved the gifts i made, but because things got a little crazy. One of my friends sells Pure Romance and brought a few goodies to share with everyone. After about an hour of all of us giggling, getting way to excited and using my favorite word VAGINA almsot too often, Jessica was in her car to go get her full supply. She came back and we were delighted to have a full presentation equipped with free samples, testers and vibrators galore. Oh how I love my uninhibited friends! It was the perfect Christmas gift, since Im pretty sure we all orders ourselves some gifts.

Christmas Eve In: Every year since I was about 16 we have had the same quests for Christmas Eve. My ex-boyfriends family. Weird? Not really. Our families got very close and share a lack of family members in Oregon so a tradition was born. I have a great friendship with my ex and its not awkward at all. This year was especially fun since he and I opened the same present, at the same time, dart guns! It was a race and I won! Then I became OBSESSED with trying to shoot out the flame of one of my mothers candles. Im sad to report my gun was taken away before I succeeded. The night ended with an intense game of UNO (that the boyfriend showed up and join in for, yes, you must be able to hang in my awesome yet sometimes awkward life, and he does) and I tied for first. It was pretty darn fun.

Christmas Eve Out: After Uno, it was time for my other Eve tradition, a night out at The Cooler, one of my favorite bars in Eugene. It is the place where I know everyone that works there and most everyone from my high school frequents it. Over the years it just turns out that all my old friends show up there on Christmas eve. It was low key and fun and full of friends. I loved it.

Christmas Morning: Nothing super special just a solid few hours with my parents, my brother and the dogs! I love time like this with my family, it doesnt happen often enough. Not to mentions my parents stocked me up with all house junk I needed. Lucky girl. And the best part, every one loved their presents from me! yay!

Gordy: So I have this friend. His name is Gordy. He is the best guy ever and has been one of my best friends for years. He is the one that took me in when I moved to Portland and stayed on his couch for just a little too long:) We had a bit of a falling out, not triggered by anything really, just grew apart and things got a little weird as far as making the first move back towards our  friendship. BUT, he texted me a Merry Christmas and that was that. I texted back saying lets just meet up (he lives in Seattle now, but his family is in Eugene still) and we did. We met at The Cooler (the only place I knew was open) and had the ultimate catch up sesh! I am so lucky to have some one like Gordy in my life, some one that doesnt want to hear me apologies and wipe the slate clean and calls me his sister. I just feel better knowing he is back in my life like he used to be. This was the best part of my Christmas! Cheesy I know but getting my best friend back was the best gift I received. (yes, you make pause to throw up now)

All in all, a great holiday, and that was just some of it. I love love loved it.
How was your Christmas?

oh hi.

12.29.2010

Hello my little sugarplums.
Im so sorry I havent been around much, but I am still knee deep in holiday cheer (and maybe wrapping paper.) This morning I am on my second trip home to Eugene to spend some more time with my bestest and my family. Not quite sure what the plans are for New Years, but you can bet it will be an adventure. I hope you are all enjoying the holidays. I will update soon. Love.

My wonderful weekend...

Friday:
To my surprise I got to get off work early. I had a great day with the kids but it was nice to get home early. The boyfriend left for Eugene with his brother so I was in for an evening to myself. I spent it editing photos and watching girly movies. I also ended up sleeping on the couch. hehe.

Saturday
I woke up early and watched another movie. I edited some more photos and ate pasta for breakfast. Then I went to dance practice, which was great considering I hadnt been in 2 weeks. Then I went home to get ready and I was off to Eugene.
I got to chat with my mom for a little bit then I was on my way to the boyfriends parents house. We hung out for a while with all of his family. It was really nice. His sister in now in the air force and left the next morning for Germany. So it was really great to see her before she left. Then we went with his brothers and sisters-in-laws to this little dive bar (that I dont care much for) but it was fun with good company. The best part was that I got to meet a fellow photographer, Jamie Jones, that I have been friends with on face book but have never actually met. I "met" her because she married a friend of mine from highschool, Kody, who just happens to be the brother of one of the boyfriends sister-in-laws. Get it? Anyways, she was wonderful. I cant even tell you. It was as if I had paid for a mini mentor session. She is one of the sweetest spirits ive met in a long time. She is generous and encouraging and I learned this all in the first 2 hours of face time.
Then it was back to my parents house for a mini hot tub sesh with the boyfriend. Then I passed out reading a book in my childhood bedroom.

Sunday:
I woke up to a call from one of my best friends Andi. We made a plan to hang out and she picked me up an hour later with the little man from the photography above! We went to Cafe Yumm (my fave place ever) and then to her house to hang out with her fiance and sister (also good friends of mine). It had been wayyyy too long and felt like home.
After a little nap on my parents couch, the boyfriend and I went to his grandmothers house. I simply adore his grandmother. She is teeny tiny and says the sweetest things you could think of. I just love his wonderful, never ending family. They are so great.
We then went back to my families dinner and ate even more. And visted for just a little longer.
I ofcourse slept for most of the drive home while the wonderful boyfriend drove in silence. Poor thing. But we ended the night, and weekend, with some relaxing cuddling and some Wonder Years!

How was your weekend?

HIGHLIGHTS OF '09

1.07.2010

Here are just a few of my favorite highlights of the past year...

I moved to Portland.
Got an amazing apartment.
Rekindled an old friendship/gained a new roomie.
Heard John Maxwell speak.
Fell in love with my bestfriend.
Made tons of new friends.
Made the decision to do it on my own.
Lost a job.
The most amazing job fell into my lap.
Interned over the summer.
Made the photography contact I was dying for, and now we are even friends.
Finally grew out of the bar scene. For the most part.
Grew up, for the first time I honestly feel more grown up.

I cant wait for 2010.
Its gonna be even better!

My New Years Eve...

The boyfriend and I had our New Years Eve all planned out...

We woke up early and drove to the mountain! SNOWBOARDING! The roads were really snowy and we finally had to chain up for the first time this season. After a much longer trip than usual, we had arrived. Only to realized that the rain had never turned to snow. As we sat in the car, the rain came pouring down more and more. After a short snowball fight in the parking lot we realized that the rain wasnt going to turn in to snow any time soon, and we headed home. Such a bummer.
Outside my apartment building.
So gangsta.

Playin in the car hoping the rain will
turn into snow.

But...things looked up when it was time for our NYE festivities!!! We went to the store and dropped a buncha cash on tons of yummy food and booze! Then it was back to my cozy apartment for the HARRY POTTER MARATHON! Yay! It was really really fun. New years, to me, is always a let down. There is so much build up but its so often a disappointment. So we decided to stay in this year. I didnt get all dolled up. I didnt stress about what to wear. I didnt put on my makeup. I got in my sweats ate way too much food and fully relaxed! I was thrilled with the way it all turned out. I had so so so much fun just cuddling with my best friend at midnight.
Right after our New Years kiss.
First photo of the 2010.

I couldnt have had a better NYE.
How was your night?

The Christmas Post.

1.01.2010

Please listen while you enjoy.
I truly had a wonderful Christmas this year. Thanks to my amazing job, I had 2 full weeks off. The plan was to spend a handful of days in my hometown of Eugene. However, I was in major need of a dentist visit so one opening landed me at my parents house the tuesday night before Christmas. It was weird and lovely to be at my parents house for that long. It finally doesnt feel like my home anymore. A bittersweet feeling, I admit. But I filled my time with last minute crafting and wrapping, sitting and talking with my parents, getting to know their new and wonderful little dog lily, and going out with good and old friends. It was pretty amazing. The best part? I got my dog (a joint custody pup) for the day (and one night). He is my best little buddy and I miss him already.

As for the gifts... I couldn't be happier. About what I got and what I gave this year.

For my family (mom, dad and brother) I got practical mostly items off of their lists. This is how my family thrives. And they loved each one.

For my best girlfriends...Knitted cowl neck scarves, homemade headbands and individual specific paintings or photography (not pictured) for them.

For Bryce, my "nephew"... a nike shirt and a truck, I think he liked it.

For the boyfriend...
Another flannel for the collection (to be stolen by me very shortly)

A nerf shotgun (big hit)

A vintage 49er starter jacket than he has aparently been wanting since birth (even bigger hit)

What did I get you ask? Too much, but here are some of my faves...

From my parents... a much needed and super cute purple vaccuum. And new white sheets! Yes! (see, the practical gifts)

From my little brother... A mirror with a little engraving on the bottom saying I love you Sis. (what he always calls me)

From my roommate Kait... A pinhole camera!

From my bestfriend Andi... a snuggie! I knew Id eventually join the club!

From my other bestie Rachelle... 2 bags of cottoncandy, a new travel coffee cup (which is eco friendly and mainly why she bought it for me), the twilight dvd and the best... a mix tape cd of all of our favorite dance songs, my favorite songs from high school or any of my gangsta ish! Basically our friendships soundtrack. She couldnt have done better!

And last but so not least, from my amazing boyfriend...The new fuji instax camera I have been dying for and truly NEVER thought I would own. I adore it!

My Christmas was perfect.
How was yours?

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas Everyone.

Christmas Beauty...

The way overdo Thanksgiving post...

12.02.2009

Wow! This Thanksgiving weekend was INTENSE! To say the least.
oh, and i didnt take one effing picture all weekend! wtf?

It started on a wednesday.
The boyfriend and I drove down to Eugene together. We got an early start so we wouldnt get stuck in the holiday traffic, but leaving early did not deter me from wanting to go to sleep the second we hit the freeway. So, we decided to play 20 questions. It actually did the trick. It made the trip fly by, not only did I stay awake, but I was alert and speaking, and, best of all, we found out I totally rock at the game! I kicked his butt!

When we got to Eugene however, we were entirely ready to let everyone know we had arrived yet. So we hid out in the 1.50 theatre! We saw the invention of lying and I cant believe how good it was. It was really well written, very smart. But we couldnt dodge the inevitable any longer so the boyfriend took me to my parents and then went off to dinner at his.

We met back up later that night and headed out to see all the friends! It was really fun! I saw tons of people I hadnt seen in a very long time, and got to spend a lot of time with my closest friends and my little brother. Although I drank much more than I had wanted to, I had a very good night and first few hours HOME.

The Turkey Day.
I woke up a little wobbly and couldnt get the door of the "guest room" open. I later found out it wasnt the residual alcohol, it was in fact the doors fault and my dad assured me he'd get right on it. I spend most the morning watching TV with my parents. They are very low key and I love that about them. Its just me, my parents and my brother, so holidays tend not to be a huge ordeal. But for the boyfriend...things are different. He has a huge family! They are all very involved! And with his parents being separated we were in for quite a hectic weekend!

The day actually started around noon, when I followed the boyfriend out to his dads house. About a 20 minute drive down windy roads in the pouring rain. Standard Oregon Thanksgiving.  A full house and a beautiful meal was what we had in store for us. It was so nice to hang out with a big family. I love it. There were in laws and friends everywhere. Im pretty sure I never put down my wine glass. The dinner was great, though I only had two things (Thanksgiving really lost its luster when I became a vegetarian). But it pained everyone else more than it did me. The boyfriends step-mother tried so hard to make more things for me to eat, but there was literally bacon in everything! I ate potatoes and yams! And it was soooo good.

Then I said my goodbyes and drove back into town for my families much smaller scale dinner. After my brother and I had a minor scuffle, it wouldnt be a holiday right?, I ate with my parents and then settled on the couch to watch a movie.

We were supposed to go out again but once the boyfriend made it back, we were done for. We spent the rest of the night on the couch and it was wonderful.

Fall Over Friday.
Next up: The boyfriends Mom's side! This includes: his mother, step-dad, brother#1 and his beautiful wife (also her father and his wife today), brother #2 and his beautiful wife, and step brothers 1 and 2. Plus us! Wine tasting was the order of the day and they didnt have to tell me twice. 11am and we are off to the first vineyard! It was such a great day. Full of wine and casual conversation. I feel so lucky that hanging with my boyfriends families is so easy. Its comfortable and welcoming and I know that its not always that great of a situation for people. We visited 4 different vineyards and had a dinner at the last one. So much fun.

Of course his family wouldnt just have one holiday this weekend. It was his younger brothers birthday! BACK TO DADS SIDE! Dinner immediately following our wine tasting. I ordered a beer at sushi so my hangover wouldnt hit mid roll. His little brother loved the shirt we got him and adore the rubber band gun we also chose.

After another massive meal, we said out good byes and headed home for a quick change of clothes and we were supposed to be off for some fun with friends. We never left my house. We laid down next to the fire, big mistake, and ended the night with a hot tub. I liked plan b.

See EVERYONE Saturday.
I started this day with a drive out to my ex boyfriends to pick up my doggie for the day! Yay! We have a bit of a joint custody thing going on, so naturally, I would get some face time with the pooch this holiday weekend! It was good to catch up with him and his girlfriend a bit. But it was sooooo much better to see my puppy! I have had this dog for 5 years now and he really is the best dog in the entire world! i love him so much its stupid!

Then the boyfriend, the dog and I went off to my bestfriend Andi's new house for some quality catch up time! Her dog and mine are like best dog buds since they were puppies so they were very excited to play together too! But best of all I got to play with my little man, Bryce. Andi's son and the closest thing to a nephew i have! He is the cutest kid on the planet! I just adore him! I loved that I was able to spend a good amount of time with them!

Next I dropped the boyfriend off cause he had some more brotherly birthday duties to attend to (paintballing). I was going to go, but I finally opted out and went for a chill day with my parents. I took a little nap on their living room floor with my doggie and it was simply glorious! I hated saying goodbye to my parents. I love them so much and I feel like I never see them anymore now that I dont live in the same town. But it was a great holiday with them.

We ended the night back at the boyfriends mother's house. We had a lovely meal and more wine. Another couple of hours of hanging with the brothers and sisters in law and moms, dads and grandmas, and we had officially wrapped up the holiday in Eugene.

We hit the road at about 930 after ordering 2 large coffees from a drivethru window. We got through I think 2 rounds of 20 questions and then I passed out. Typical.

I really had an amazing holiday! Did you?
