Awesome Day 12: Away We Go!

10.17.2009

Ok. So this may not seem so awesome to all of you, but I think it is awesome. And on this awesome day I have fallen in love, with a movie. Ive fallen quickly, deeply and way too hard. It is called Away We Go. Its a wonderful story about a couple expecting a baby who are just trying to find a place to call home. It is written and shot beautifully. The cast is amazing, perfect and full of so many of my favorite actors. Its hard to explain everything that this movie has brought to me. So much hope, assurance, light, relativity, and pure happiness. Its touching and wonderfully hilarious. I adore the relationship in this movie. This is love to me. This is what I want.

My favorite quote from the making. John Krasinski's take on the couples relationship:

"I saw the relationship with Bert and Verona a lot like bowling. Its sorta like when she bowls, she can bowl the game regular. Then when I come to step up, she puts out the bumpers. And so my ball will never go in the gutter, because of her."

I love everything about this film. I really encourage everyone to see it. Please.

PhotAwesome Day 11!!!

10.16.2009

Today I got to do something I have wanted to do for years. As a nanny I am constantly with children, watching them grow and discover. It is awesome. There has been this project that I have been waiting to do with a child, but I had to wait for some one that was at an appropriate age for it to be worthwhile. S is the perfect age. The perfect age to discover photography!

So I took S and little O to the store and let him pick out his first disposable camera. I have wanted to do this project with film because I adore film. There is something so special about taking a photo and not getting to immediately see it on the back of your camera. There is chance and mystery about it and I wanted S to experience this. After we got the camera we headed home and I taught him how to use it. He too many pictures of his sister and his toys but I had him save half of them so we could go outside later and take the rest.

The outside photos were great! He photographed tons of trees and leaves and got some great pumpkin shots! I loved seeing him enjoying the experience as much as I was! He had a blast and so did I!

The rest of the project consists of getting the photos developed and having him go with me to pick them up and then see his photography first hand. Being able to pick up each photo and look at it in his hands instead of on a computer screen will give a greater sense of accomplishment. Or at least I think so! I would love to date them and put them in a scrap book and then repeat this project at least once a month so we can all track his progression. So far so good!

Here are the photos from the next day:

Awesome!

Awesome Day 10: Market, Moving, Mo!

This wonderful Sunday was full of amazing mini awesomes. Here goes...

I woke up with a happy hangover. An awesome hangover. No, literally, a hangover from so much awesome. I felt wonderful. I woke up the rest of the clan out in the living room and we spent a while just laughing as we recapped and helped each other fill in the blanks of the nights festivities. Not to mention looked at all of the pictures we both, remembered, and didnt remember taking. Then we all took the chilly stroll to the Saturday Market (that goes all weekend) down by the waterfront and looked around and had some "breakfast." It was awesome, cold, but awesome.

After I said by to my friends, it was time to go help the boyfriend move out of his apartment and into his new house with some different friends of his. It is a good move for him right now and I was glad he was doing it. However, I was not glad I was helping. I was so tired and cold and cranky. Blah! But I did the girlfriendy thing and lent him my jeep and my massive muscle in which I know he couldnt have done it without. It was both fun and awful all at the same time.

Later, was the best awesome. I stopped by Mo's Birthday Party! I cant believe my little buddy is 2! So crazy! I have missed him so much. I still hadnt seen him since my last day with him. I really have wanted to but it was a bit of an odd situation and it was just easier, or so I thought then, to just let it be for a while. But when I walked into that house and saw his long shaggy hair and his deeper voice, I had thoroughly regretted staying away at all! He hugged me and still called me Ya-Ya, I loved that! He showed me all his stuff and played with me the whole time. This was a big deal as I was afraid he might have forgotten me or atleast forgotten how much fun we have together. He hadnt and it was so awesome. I loved and hated it. It was fun and also sad to see how much he had changed in just a month and a half. As the party wound down Mo had hugged and thanked most everyone that was there and it was just me, Mo, the boyfriend, Mos parents and one grandparent left. I began saying goodbye and asked for a hug, but Mo replied with a loud and steady, NO! He wouldnt give me a hug becuase he didnt want me to go. This broke my heart because I know I had done this to him. I did exactly what I didnt want to do to him. I left one day and didnt come back. I felt awful and cried a little bit. I finally got my goodbye but it was rought and tear filled. But I promised to come back this week to drop off the last thing I had for him and hang for a little visit. It was hard to see him like that, but it was totally awesome!!!

Awesome 9: Billy the Birthday Boy!

I have this friend. His name is Billy. We met when I joined dance team in high school. I could not dance. I was a tomboy til the end. I was very into and very good at soccer, it was my thing. So it was a huge shock when I one day quit soccer and decided to try out for the dance team at my new high school. My parents were concerned, as, I really, could not keep a beat to save my life. However, I tried out. I made it, but only cause no one gets cut from JV. To make a long story short, I improved and made varsity in 5 months. I could all the sudden hold my own and throw triple turns out of no where. It was then that I began following in Billys footsteps.

He was two years older than me and everyone knew who he was. He was dance team Billy. He was so good and always stood out. We clicked. We because great friends right away. We had the same humor and vulgarity. He also took me under his wing a bit and began grooming me to take over the spotlight one day. Which I did. Hehe.

After he graduated we didnt get to hang out as much until my senior year when I joined a hip hop company that he danced and choreographed for. We were at it again, and I loved it. A couple years later he made a break for it and began living a lovely and very different life, dancing on cruise ships. It always sounded so extravagant and wonderful. I was fully jealous. This is when I stopped seeing him. He would be gone for months at a time only coming home for a couple weeks, if at all. I only saw him once since he left the first time he left for a short picnic lunch in Eugene one day a couple of years ago. Until........my awesome day 9!!!!

I had found out that Billy was in town for a bit and asked if he would like to get together. He said he was going out for his birthday, that was the next day, on a Saturday night and that I should come too. It was perfect as all of the places he wanted to go were within 5 blocks of my apartment, so I offered up my space for prefunking and a crash pad. I was so excited when he accepted and said that two of our friends from dance that I havent seen in years were coming too. So awesome!

It was so much fun. It started off with a dressy dinner at Matador. Yes, I wore a dress, a dressy one (thanks a lot Kristen, she made me to it!) Then back to my place for drinks! We stayed longer than we wanted but it was perfect because I was able to light a candle in the cupcake I was hiding and sing happy birthday to him right at midnight! So awesome! We then went out for a night of drinks and dancing, then a super early breakfast and back to my house for stupid and silly drunken shenanigans! I cant tell you how much fun I had with my old friends. Or what it meant to me to not only see Billy again, but to share his birthday with him! I loved it! And it was so much more than awesome!

Fun. Fun. Fun.

Not Very Awesome Days 7 and 8!

So I know I am supposed to make something awesome happen everyday, but the awesome haters of the world came together to ruin two of my precious awesome seeking days! Thursday (day 7) was pretty standard, and not super awesome, but I had planned on going out with a few friends. An awesome girls night out. However, they all bailed. I was bummed but then I was saved with the invite to go out with two of my favorite guys (the boyfriend and big kev). I was really stoked at the prospect of an awesome night being salvaged. However, the night wasnt terribly awesome. It was fun and all but, honestly, it was a bit of a snore. We only went to two places and both were super low key. We did have some good conversation but nothing really over the top awesome. When it was finally time to go back up to my apartment, I found out that I had not put my key in my bag. The one to let me into the building. I called every one that I know in the apartment but no one was home and my roommate was out of town. A big bummer. So we had to drive to the boyfriends house to sleep. It was so irritating. An awesome bust of a night!
Here are the few shots we got from one of the spots!

Me and my signature drink.
(Vodka Redbull with a splash of Pineapple Juice)

Us. Being awkward. As usual.

We dont even like each other.

Big Kev. Killin it.

But whats even better and more awesome than my shitty night was my shitty morning. I barely drank anything and I woke up feeling like there was a rave going on inside my head. It pulsated to a perfect techno beat and I could barely stand with out feeling like falling over. The boyfriend, his roomie and I went around the corner for some breakfast. After the waiter gave me shit about being clearly hungover (still wearing sunglasses, hood on, head resting on table, ordering fruit and 7 up) and smelling the mixture of fellow diners food and the boyfriends bloody mary, I got up and went to the car hoping the brisk air would seise my urge to purge. It did for a while but lets just say, I spent the rest of the meal sleeping in the back of the car. The rest of the day got progressively worse, I ended up throwing up, couldnt get up without feeling like i was gonna fall right over, and the headache intensified. I didnt start feeling better until about 9pm when the boyfriend came over to watch a movie. An awful unawesome day!

The only upside what that I got to lay around my apartment with only the kitten and watch my favorite show on dvd, Gilmore Girls, for hours and hours on end!

My apologies for the lack of awesome on these days!

Awesomes Coming Soon!

I swear! The posts have been written, Ive just been waiting to get my photos and writings all in the same place! So soon, I promise! I know...even MaryKate doesnt believe me!

Day 6: Ohmsome

10.12.2009

Little O was still running a fever this day, so her parents decided to take her to the doctor. This meant that I got off work at 11. Wow! A free day! It was wonderful and awesome. I spent some time in the afternoon with the boyfriend and then in the evening, I finally put his birthday gift to use. He had bought me a massage and I was saving it for the perfect day. It was long and perfect and so awesome.  I was in a haze the rest of the evening, a beautiful and awesome haze.

That night the boyfriend and I decided to do some yoga. Please note that the boyfriend has never done yoga before. Hehehe. We did it at home with one of my dvds. It was my favorite one, Power Yoga. Its a great work out while still centering and relaxing you. However, it was hard to stay centered while laughing at the boyfriend the whole time. I loved hearing him admit that it was hard and intense. It was really fun. And completely awesome!
Anyone else just love awesome days full of relaxation?

Awesome Day 5: Coffee Black and Hair Brown

On this particularly awesome morning, I got a text from my boss saying that Little O was still running a fever so I didnt need to be at work until noon! NOON! It was amazing to get to sleep in. So awesome. So to savor the precious and awesome morning I went to my favorite coffee shop in Portland, Backspace, which just so happens to be nextdoor to my apartment! I had an awesome coffee and an awesome crossaint!

But the real awesome of the day came later, after work. My rommie decided she would like to go brunnette! I fully endorsed her decision and became her wingman in the awesome adventure. We took a lovely autumn walk to the store for our supplies and then...we did it! Awesome!

Before. Note: my awesome XXL shirt!

Isnt she lovely?
It turned out so awesome!

Awesome Day Four: S Meet Crafts, Lacey Meat Man!

So, my mondays are the only day during the week that I work with both of the littles all day. Sometimes its more tiring and sometimes its way more awesome! This day was AWESOME. Little O had been running a bit of a fever so her mom stayed home for the morning and I got to take S for an outing, just the two of us. S and I decided that we would have an AWESOME CRAFT DAY! We hopped in my jeep and headed to....JoAnns! Ive told you about JoAnn. She has the greatest most wonderful craft store ever! I told S that it was the biggest craft store in the world (a small fib) and he was soooo excited to see it! We ran around and looked at everything! We chased eachother and yelled way too loud! After we got our supplies we headed home. And after a quick nap, S and I made these ghosts! Soooo fun. We made a family! It was awesome.

A smaller, but still awesome, anecdote came from the door to door meat salesman. Yes, you read correctly. While the Littles were napping a guy knocked on the door and asked if we were interested in buying any steaks and having him deliver them regularly. I told him I was just the nanny and didnt think that my bosses wanted his steaks. He then inquired about where my home was located and asked if I would be interested in his steaks. I told him I was a veggetarian and figured this would be the surest way to get him out of the doorway. He said alright and left. However, 15 minutes later, another knock at the door and it is Mr. MeatMan again. He proceeds in acknoledging my veggetarianism while handing me a piece of paper with his name and number on it and then tells me to call him and he will take me to a particular veggetarian resturant in the pearl district by my apartment. It was very sweet actually. He was a bit nervous but very very bold. He wasnt bad looking by any means and had a bit of charm about him. I was in a bit of shock about it but told him I wouldnt be calling him because I have a boyfriend. He was a little bummed but I gave him heaps of credit on his approach. It took a lot of guts and I love those kind of bold gestures. Anyways, I thought it was pretty awesome.

Before I left, S showed me his new halloween costume! A dragon! So awesome and im so jealous.

Also, while the Littles napped, I made my own ghost! I meant for him to be a sleepy ghost, but everyone else thinks he is a stoner ghost.
